Day 1. Saturday 9th January 2027 We depart and travel to the market town of Banbury. An important centre for wool trading in the 13th Century, Banbury developed into a small industrial hub after the Oxford Canal was opened in 1790. Today, Banbury is a lively town with a thriving commercial core and you'll find charming streets and historic buildings alongside new developments here - such as the Castle Quay Shopping Centre in the recently regenerated Oxford Canal area. However, for many people the first thing that springs to mind when Banbury is mentioned is “Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury Cross”. Later this afternoon we make the journey to the outskirts of Oxford and the Oxford Belfry Hotel & Spa. On arrival at the hotel, relax in the bar, explore the hotel further or make your way to your bedroom and prepare for the evening ahead. Later this evening enjoy a drinks reception followed by dinner and entertainment in the College Suite.
Day 2. Sunday 10th January 2027 After a relaxed and hearty breakfast, we set off for the short journey to Oxford, famously known as the City of Dreaming Spires. Steeped in a rich and fascinating history, Oxford is renowned for its prestigious university, home to 38 historic colleges where many notable scholars, authors, and world leaders have studied. Its inspiring architecture, cobbled lanes, and academic atmosphere have captured the imagination of visitors for centuries. Explore the grand university halls and follow in the footsteps of Prime Ministers, celebrated poets, and even the legendary Harry Potter, with several scenes filmed right here. Oxford is also a favourite location for many popular television shows, including Inspector Morse. With its mix of history, and culture, Oxford offers a truly memorable experience for history lovers, literary fans, and curious travellers alike. Later this afternoon, we bid farewell and begin our return to your original joining point.
