Day 1. Monday We depart and travel to York, a city renowned for its stunning architecture, magnificent Gothic cathedral, and maze of quaint cobbled streets. As history blends seamlessly with modern charm, York offers plenty of surprises - from vibrant cafés and colourful street entertainers to boutique and high street shopping just waiting to be explored. Later this afternoon, we continue to the village of Rosedale Abbey, where you’ll be welcomed with a drink on arrival before settling into your room, with porterage included. Dinner is included this evening, offering the perfect opportunity to relax and unwind after a day of discovery.
Day 2. Tuesday After breakfast, we begin our day with a short visit to the vibrant market town of Pickering, where independent shops, traditional cafés, and historic charm set the perfect tone for the day ahead. We then continue to the classic seaside resort of Scarborough, one of Britain’s best-loved coastal destinations. From the rugged rocky headland and traditional appeal of the South Bay to the colourful beach huts and award-winning sands of the North Bay, it has something for everyone. Take time to stroll along the seafront, or relax and soak up the atmosphere. Dinner is included this evening, rounding off a wonderful day of exploration.
Day 3. Wednesday Enjoy a leisurely morning with free time to explore the pretty village of Rosedale Abbey. Despite its name, there was never an abbey here – only a small Cistercian nunnery, of which a single stone turret or belfry remains in the churchyard. Although peaceful today, Victorian Rosedale once flourished with a thriving ironstone industry. Later this morning, we depart Rosedale Abbey and make a short stop in the famous village of Goathland – better known as “Aidensfield” from TV’s Heartbeat. Our scenic journey then continues to Whitby. From the atmospheric Abbey overlooking cobbled streets to the windswept beach and working harbour, Whitby is unlike any other coastal town. Follow in the footsteps of Bram Stoker’s Dracula or Captain James Cook, and perhaps discover the story of Whitby Jet. There will be free time to explore at your own pace before enjoying a fish and chip dinner at a local restaurant. We return to the hotel later this evening.
Day 4. Thursday We check out and depart this morning after breakfast, enjoying a visit to the Ryedale Folk Museum. Nestled in the picturesque village of Hutton-le-Hole, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, the museum is Yorkshire’s leading open-air attraction. With more than 40,000 objects housed within 20 heritage buildings and beautifully displayed across a six-acre site, it brings to life the stories, traditions, and everyday experiences of local people through the centuries. Take time to explore at your own pace and soak up the charm of this unique setting. We depart the museum later this afternoon for our journey home.
