Day 1. Monday We travel to Cambourne, near Cambridge.
Day 2. Tuesday Today we visit the world-famous university city of Cambridge - where centuries of history, stunning architecture, and academic brilliance come together in one unforgettable setting. Wander through cobbled streets and elegant courtyards as you explore the ancient colleges that have shaped some of the greatest minds in history. From Sir Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin to Professor Stephen Hawking, Cambridge has long been a cradle of discovery and innovation. Marvel at the iconic King’s College Chapel, admire the picturesque “Backs” along the River Cam, and soak in the timeless charm of this compact yet captivating city. Day 3. Wednesday Today we visit St. Albans, a vibrant historic city where ancient heritage meets a lively modern atmosphere. At its heart stands the magnificent St Albans Cathedral, home to the longest nave in England and one of the finest collections of medieval wall paintings in the country. St Albans boasts a rich tradition of market trading that continues to thrive today. Alongside the historic St Albans Market, a variety of independent and visiting markets bring the city to life, offering everything from delicious local food and artisan produce to unique homewares, antiques, and salvaged treasures. With its charming streets, welcoming cafés, and blend of history and culture, St Albans offers a truly memorable and atmospheric day of exploration and discovery for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
Day 4. Thursday Enjoy a delightful day exploring Ely, one of England’s hidden gems. This charming cathedral city blends rich history with modern appeal in a setting perfect for exploring on foot. Dominating the skyline, Ely Cathedral, often called the “Ship of the Fens”, is a breathtaking example of medieval architecture. Wander quaint streets lined with historic buildings, browse independent shops and cosy tearooms, or enjoy a peaceful stroll beside the river. We also visit historic Bury St Edmunds, surrounded by beautiful countryside and steeped in over 1,000 years of history. Discover its elegant squares, and landscaped gardens, offering a relaxed and historic Suffolk experience. A perfect blend of heritage, scenery, and culture creates a truly memorable and relaxing countryside excursion.
Day 5. Friday We depart and return home.
