Itinerary

Day 1. Monday We travel to Durham via Thirsk.

Day 2. Tuesday Following breakfast, we include entrance to Beamish, the Living Museum of the North. Set within 300 acres of countryside, Beamish offers a unique glimpse into life in North East England during the early 1800s and 1900s. Explore the Edwardian Town, Pit Village, and Home Farm, all brought to life by costumed staff sharing stories and demonstrations of everyday life. Ride a vintage tram or old-fashioned bus between different areas of the museum. Beamish offers a hands-on experience of how the Industrial Revolution shaped communities, capturing the spirit, struggles, and triumphs of a bygone era in an immersive setting.

Day 3. Wednesday Today, we include entrance to the National Museum of the Royal Navy, located within an authentically recreated 1800s historic quayside. Embark on a fascinating journey through naval history and explore Fighting Ships, which offers a powerful insight into the challenging lives of sailors during the era of Admiral Lord Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar. Learn how men were press ganged into service and experience life aboard HMS Trincomalee. Around the quay, witness demonstrations that bring the past vividly to life, including the impressive firepower of period guns in action, creating an unforgettable experience.

Day 4. Thursday Enjoy a free day in Durham, a city where medieval history meets vibrant modern culture. Wander through winding cobbled streets and explore the dramatic peninsula crowned by Durham Cathedral and Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This quintessential old English university city offers a timeless charm that captivates every visitor. Take a relaxing riverside walk or enjoy a peaceful river cruise. Immerse yourself in the city’s lively atmosphere by visiting its superb cafés, artisan workshops, unique boutiques, galleries, and museums.
