With a rich history dating back to the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, the East Lancashire Railway is the steam-powered heart of the Irwell Valley. For nearly 200 years, it transported goods and people across the region, fueling local industry and community life. Today, the heritage line runs for 12 scenic miles through Lancashire’s rolling rural landscapes, charming villages, bustling Victorian towns, and cotton mill-studded horizons. You’ll also enjoy free time to explore Bury Market, a historic, vibrant hub with over 370 stalls offering everything from fresh local produce and delicious groceries to stylish clothing, beautiful jewellery, and useful household items.
