Day 1. Friday We depart this morning and visit the traditional market town of Thirsk, nestled between the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. Enjoy free time to explore the town at your own pace, along with included entry to the World of James Herriot. This self-guided museum visit offers a unique and immersive experience, allowing you to step into the world of the famous veterinarian and author. Explore the original home and surgery where Alf Wight lived and worked. Later this afternoon, we travel to Darlington and check in at the Mercure Darlington Kings Hotel. This evening, enjoy a delicious three-course dinner.
Day 2. Saturday Today we visit Locomotion, part of the National Railway Museum, home to over 70 locomotives and historic railway vehicles. Later, we continue to Durham, a city that blends medieval heritage with vibrant contemporary culture. Discover cobbled streets, independent shops, and a stunning riverside setting crowned by the UNESCO-listed Durham Cathedral and Castle. Take a relaxing river cruise or walk, browse artisan boutiques and galleries, or enjoy a coffee in one of the city’s many cosy cafés. With its rich history and welcoming atmosphere, Durham offers a perfect mix of sightseeing and relaxation in a truly unique setting.
Day 3. Sunday We depart after breakfast and begin our journey home via The Auckland Project, a unique collection of heritage attractions, galleries, gardens, and parkland in the historic town of Bishop Auckland, County Durham. Here, you’ll embark on an extraordinary journey through a remarkable story of faith, art, and power - from the Prince Bishops of Durham to the town’s unexpected connection with the Golden Age of Spanish art. Enjoy time to explore at your own pace and take in the surroundings. We depart later this afternoon to continue our journey home, reflecting on the rich history and culture experienced during our visit.
