Itinerary

Day 1. Monday We travel to Peebles, Scottish Borders.

Day 2. Tuesday Enjoy a leisurely morning in the charming Borders Royal Burgh of Peebles. Explore its historic streets, independent shops, cosy cafés, and riverside walking trails leading to Neidpath Castle. Dating back to the 12th century, when King William I granted it Royal Burgh status, Peebles has grown into a lively market town full of character and appeal. In the afternoon, journey to Abbotsford House, the magnificent former home of Sir Walter Scott. Discover its striking architecture, richly decorated interiors, and beautifully landscaped gardens - offering a fascinating insight into the life and legacy of one of Scotland’s most influential literary figures.

Day 3. Wednesday Today we travel on the Borders Railway, the longest new domestic railway built in over a century. This scenic journey runs from the grandeur of Edinburgh to the Borders town of Tweedbank, passing through former mining communities, rolling farmland, and the lush valleys that define the Scottish Borders. It's a route rich in history and natural beauty, offering a relaxing and picturesque travel experience. Upon arrival in Edinburgh, enjoy free time to explore Scotland’s magnificent and historic capital at your own pace - whether visiting landmarks, shopping, or simply soaking in the atmosphere - before returning to the Borders by coach.

Day 4. Thursday After a delicious hotel breakfast, join the coach for a scenic coastal tour through Lothian, visiting the charming seaside town of North Berwick. Enjoy its eclectic shops, cafés, and bars, world-renowned golf courses, and views of Bass Rock, a haven for seabirds. Spend time on the beach and perhaps enjoy traditional fish and chips before continuing along the coast. Pass Dunbar and the picturesque fishing harbour of St Abbs, before arriving in Berwick-upon-Tweed. Just across the border in Northumberland, this historic town offers a wealth of shops, landmarks, and monuments for you to explore at your leisure.

Day 5. Friday We depart after breakfast and return home.
